Whenever I feel resistance in my processes, I recall Bruce Lee’s words, “Be water, my friend.”
They carry a truth that every creator should live by.
Rigid plans and fixed expectations don’t survive long in the real world.
Most beginners break because they try to force their process to match an ideal. They cling to formats, tools, or identities, and when those things don’t work, frustration takes over.
Stone shatters. Water flows.
Consistent and successful creation demands the water approach: adapt to the container, keep moving, and never lose your essence.
It’s not about being passive. It’s about channeling energy where it actually works.
Here’s a simple framework to practice being water:
Shape to the Container – Your “container” is the audience, the platform, the time you have. Don’t fight it. Match your content to the shape it requires.
Flow Around Obstacles – Criticism, failed launches, or dead platforms aren’t walls. They’re detours. Instead of stopping, shift your path.
Crash When Needed – Water doesn’t always flow gently. Sometimes it hits hard. When you find what works, double down with force and consistency.
This is the balance: flow where you must, crash when it counts.
As a creator, the choice is clear. Stay rigid and snap under pressure or stay fluid and keep moving forward. Be water, and you’ll outlast the walls.
Be water, my friend.
First accurately articulated piece I'm reading today. And the water analogy, wow - Bruce Lee got the best lines.
