I've been wrestling with how to use Substack.
It's not my main platform. My website is. But I wanted in because of Notes (I love Notes) and the potential here. The thing is, I hate building on rented land. Substack's better than most rented land, but it's still rented.
So instead of just syndicating my weekly newsletter, this publication will be micro-essays on the topics I cover. Different from what I offer on my main site — longer posts and curated links — so I'm not shortchanging anyone.
The thinking: drive people who want to go deeper to my platform while providing solid value here. Diversification and all that.
I'm thinking Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10am to keep it simple. I really like simple.
A little background: I'm Joe. Military service, Fortune 50/100 companies, then the post-Covid downturn hit and finding work got hard.
Started Niche of One in 2024, chasing the dream of making money writing on my own terms. Did really well for six months, then crashed hard. Made mistakes. Took notes. Instead of quitting, I took a break and reassessed.
Now I'm back with a new strategy.
I call myself a "minimalist creator." My watchwords: Simple. Repeatable. Human. Everything I build follows this. Posts, products, all of it. It's the mindset that lets me produce something meaningful. Something that helps.
I'm not a guru. I'm the anti-guru. I'm not telling you how to do things. I'm sharing how I do things, giving the best advice I can, and letting you use what works. I change, I pivot, I adapt. My goal is to give you a blueprint so you can build the house.
I haven't figured it all out. Neither have the creators who project perfection. That's just a mask. I don't wear masks. I'm not here for the big fish. I'm here for the little fish, the person one step behind me who needs a hand climbing the wall.
Buckle up, buttercup. We're going on an adventure.

Loved and shared this! You’re doing it right and I look forward to keeping up with here (though I confess, I’m not a Medium fan)
