made me think about how much I hate those fake "only 3 left" timers on websites. It is so much better when someone just tells you what they made and lets you decide for yourself.
I follow what you are saying and I think it’s also probably not worth it. I’m looking for credibility when I shop online and it doesn’t add to credibility, I see it as a negative and they might lose people like us. This reduces the idea ofwhy they emply the tactic. Even if we’re just 10% of shoppers, it may be enough to simply not use it. Does this make sense?
I can't stand it personally. I think, reputation-wise, it's a bad idea to employ it at all. But we're not the target demographic for the people that use this all the time. We call BS on it.
Time is a cool concept and essential for context, perspective, and change.
I like spacetime the way it is. There is no save point, no mulligans. Just you and the consequences of your actions.
And man, as a guy who loves to cook, what you share about marketing and promotion hits just the right way. The proof is in the pudding. Taste it. Whoever made it is making more in the back. The Costco staff will offer you the samples. You don't see the chef standing outside trying to get people to go inside...😛
What you describe at the beginning reminds me of the first scene in The Hurt Locker, when the IED gores off and you can see individual grains of sand flying from the vibrations of the explosion.
Was also reminiscent of Slaughterhouse Five, where Billy Pilgrim becomes, as Kurt describes it, "unstuck in time."
That’s kind of why I like watches in the first place. As a reference point against whatever my head is doing. My internal clock can stretch three seconds into a lifetime or lose an entire afternoon, but the watch doesn’t move with me.
Watches and clocks are a crazy invention, when you think about it. They were basically made to validate the thoughts people were having about time in their heads so they could track it.
They’re like an anchor for staying in the same place throughout reality.
I loved the entire piece about time. Time is fascinating to me. I had a similar experience with it slowing down when my friend and I were driving to pick up a friend, and she slammed on the brakes...on black ice. The car was spinning, and it felt so slow. I saw the mailbox going around, but it was in slow motion. Very weird sensation!
Your marketing advice is so good. I can't ever get into all the sales tactics everyone does, but mostly because I'm too lazy. A lot of those tactics work though, and that's why they do them. But I prefer the "chill" vibe like you have.
It’s always fascinated me what a few chemicals in the right order makes the brain experience, both naturally and with outside influencing. The human brain might be the single most interesting thing in the universe honestly. It is in my opinion anyway!
I appreciate the praise, but I don’t know if the advice is good… but I do know it’s mine! It works for me, but I also acknowledge it wouldn’t work for everyone. And those other techniques do work, they’re just not my bag. Like you said, it needs that “chill” vibe for me to dig it.
…”selling advice about selling”. Ugh times infinity. That’s part of what turned me off from doing my newsletter about email stuff. Started feeling way too circular and blah.

I absolutely hate the fake scarcity tactic.
it's so obviously contrived, we're more wise than that.
Well, it's obvious to people like you and I because we know the mechanics of the machine. Fools the unsuspecting every single day.

Unstuck in time is a good way to put it. And Hurt Locker’s SFX is a great example of how it feels.
It sounds terrifying though. The kind of thing that would make you freeze without the training to move.

Sorry… I’m weird…
Not weird at all. They're like (or are) one of the first computers!
Mechanical watches keep me grounded.
