The Subscribe Page Was A 404 For Months

From the archive. This issue went out June 23, 2026 and is kept as it was sent. Anything it says about prices or dates was true then — for what things cost today, see the pass or the store.

// the everything pass All-Access The whole catalog, the members vault, and the back room where the operators talk shop. $37/yr →

Revenue Operations for Creators – $4 – the back office on one page — The most-bought thing in the catalog, and it runs less than a cup of coffee. The actual machinery for a one-person operation, so the admin work stops eating the creative work.

I Spent the Week on the Front Door

The most important page on the network was the one I kept not finishing.

For months the most important page I owned was also the worst one. The subscribe page. The single spot where a stranger turns into a reader. It threw a 404.

When I finally looked, it was bouncing people to an anchor on the homepage and calling that a door.

I had built a radio station. A store. A fiction imprint. A daily letter. And I left the front door as a hole in the floor.

You will paint every room in the house before you fix the door people actually walk through. I do it constantly. I relearn it about once a month, usually the hard way.

It is not glamorous work. Nobody claps for a signup form that works.

But it is the only work that compounds. Every reader I will ever have comes through that one door, and a door that goes nowhere is worse than no door, because people try it once and they remember, and they do not come back.

So I spent the week on it. A real page now. One promise, one button. A welcome letter that goes out the second you join instead of leaving you wondering if it even took. And the free list gets the same daily letter as everyone else.

No tier. No wall. No second-class read. The door is free, the shelf is free, this letter is free.

The boring foundation outlasts the exciting facade. Every time.

Go look at your own front door today. The page where people actually come in. Then fix it before you build one more room.
