The 48-Hour Demand Test

You’ve got a product idea you haven’t built. Good. Hold off.

You’re going to find out whether anyone pays for it first, this week, for the cost of one afternoon. Here’s the drill.

1 // Build the page

One page. Five parts, in this order:

• Headline = the result they get, never the feature list
• Three bullets = what’s actually inside
• The price, in plain numbers
• A buy button
• One line: ‘ships [date]’

Takes an hour. Longer than that and you’re hiding from it.

2 // Make the button take real money

Gumroad: New Product, set the price, toggle Call this a pre-order, publish, copy the link. Ten minutes. The cash is real and the product is a promise with a date on it.

3 // Put it in front of 20 of the right people

No blast to your whole list. DMs, the two or three group chats your people already live in, ten one-to-one emails. Say it straight: ‘Building this, here’s the page, you in?’

4 // Set the go/no-go now, before results come in

Lock the standard before your ego shows up and moves it. Mine: 5 pre-orders in 48 hours and you build it that week. Under 5, you kill it and refund every cent the same day.

5 // Either result is a win

Orders mean you build with a deadline and a paycheck. Zero orders means you saved a month of nights for the price of an afternoon. Both beat guessing.

One standing order on pre-orders: they paid, so it’s a contract. You flake, you refund fast, and you don’t pull that move twice.
