The Room You Don’t Own Yet

One hour of good replies in somebody else’s comments does more for the list than another post in yours.

You keep posting into the room you own and wondering why the same forty people see it. There’s a room you don’t own where your actual people already argue about the thing you write about, and that room has traffic you’ll never buy. The move today has zero writing in it. You’re going there for an hour to be useful, and let the useful thing carry your name back to your door. Here’s the drill.

1 // Pick one room

One subreddit, one Discord, one comments section where the people who’d actually buy your stuff are talking today. Not the biggest room, the most active one in the last 24 hours. Bookmark it, close every other tab.

2 // Read fifteen minutes before you type

Scroll the last day cold, like you’ve never seen the place. Watch who’s actually getting replies and why. Fifteen minutes, timer on, no typing until it goes off. A reply that skips this step reads like a drive-by and gets treated like one.

3 // Leave five replies only you could write

Real opinion, real specific experience, the thing you actually know that a generic answer wouldn’t include. No links, no signature, no plug for the newsletter. Five replies, each long enough to prove you read the thread, short enough that nobody skims past it.

4 // Track who replies back

Open a plain note, not a spreadsheet. Every name that answers one of your five goes on it with today’s date. That name is worth more than the twenty people who upvoted and scrolled on, because a reply is the only real signal a room gives you back.

5 // Follow the warmest name tomorrow

Reply to their reply. If the thread’s dead, a short DM continuing the same conversation is fair game. An invite to your own room is a step too early. Let the warmest name come find your door on their own.

Standard: a link in any of the five replies turns the drill into an ad. Delete it and run the hour again clean tomorrow.

One room today. A different room tomorrow. The list grows in the replies you leave, not the posts you publish.
