I hate it when I get stuck.

The other day I was trying to think of things to write about or share that would be useful and I came up empty. Not due to lack of ideas.

I just couldn’t think of an interesting way to say anything.

I stared at my computer screen for a few minutes, huffed, and then threw on my shoes. If I couldn’t think of anything to say, I would at least get some exercise.

Fresh air is an underestimated cure for creative blocks.

I know this because I’ve taken up the habit of not carrying any distractions with me when I do it.

No phone. No music. No distraction.

It allows me to immerse myself in the world around me. The sound, the smell, the feel. That’s when the world begins to tell you stories about everything that’s going on around you.

That’s when the walls blocking your creativity begin to crumble.

When you give yourself over to the ambiance of the world, you realize you’re a part of it, your mind opens, and ideas just come out all over the place.

The air in your lungs becomes fuel to create.

On top of that, the walk is a healthy way for those of us who spend entirely too much time at our desks. Get up and be active for a bit.

Take a walk. Touch the grass. Hear the whispers between the trees.
